CASE STUDY: National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility

Manhattan, Kansas

The National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF), a new, state-of-the-art bio safety level 3 & 4 facility will enable the U.S. to conduct comprehensive research, develop vaccines and anti-virals, and provide enhanced diagnostic capabilities to protect our country from numerous foreign animal and emerging diseases. Currently, the NBAF site is in the construction and development phase and is estimated to reach full operational capacity within the next five years.

NBAF is one of the most notably recognized government facilities to be built in recent history. Because of its high-profile nature and sensitive National Security mission FPS needed a contractor with flawless past performance and quality to provide security support services. VendTech was awarded this prime security contract by the Department of Homeland Security: Federal Protective Service and stood the project up in less than 1 month to meet the operational time lines of FPS and the FPS customer.

With a contract value over $3M, VendTech supplies 24/7 armed Protective Service Officers (PSOs) to the NBAF site with dedicated project management, site supervision, quality control management, and shift supervision totaling approximately 35,804 hours of labor per year.

The contact includes adjudicated (DHS Suitability) Armed PSO and Reserve Forces qualified through 64 hours of SHIELD Program training. Responsibilities and duties include:

  • access control posts

  • logistics management (logs, manifests, etc)

  • visitor control posts

  • screening posts (x-ray, magnetometer, metal detector)

  • patrol & response posts

  • emergency first responders (CPR/AED/First-Aid)

  • control center operations

  • traffic control

  • receipt, use, and safeguarding of keys (locks, combinations, etc)

  • security systems monitoring & response (IDS, Fire, CCTV, Utility, Environmental)

VendTech works closely with the FPS client, DHS S&T, to augment services and modify contract requirements at a moment's notice and continue to provide optimal performance.

CASE STUDY: McConnell AFB

Wichita, Kansas

McConnell Air Force Base is the largest, premier installation for global air refueling and airlift operations in the U.S. Air Force and is home to the Air Mobility Command's 22d Air Refueling Wing (22ARW), Air Force Reserve Command's 931st Air Refueling Group (931ARG), and the Kansas Air National Guard's 184 Intelligence Wing (184IW).

Due to the nature of the installation's mission and operations, security and security systems are an absolute and imperative necessity to global continuity. In 2010 McConnell began to experience multiple security systems gaps that demanded rapid response and looked to VendTech to supply the necessary expertise, personnel, and solutions to mitigate potential security threats and risks. Our firm works diligently with the Security Force Squadron-Base Defense Operations to provide IMIR services to the entire installation, including Communications and the Flight-line (FMC), managing over 30 fixed and PTZ surveillance units, monitoring and inspecting all Head-end receivers and components, DVR systems and other peripheral equipment.

CASE STUDY: Cargill Meat Solutions

Wichita, Kansas

Cargill, Incorporated is a multinational firm based in Minnetonka, Minnesota and is the largest privately held corporation in the U.S. Cargill business' include trading, purchasing and distributing grain and other agricultural commodities; trading in energy,steel and transport; the manufacture and sale of livestock and feed; producing food ingredients such as starch and glucose syrup, vegetable syrup, vegetable oils and fats for application in processed foods and industrial use. Cargill Meat Solutions (CMS) is a Cargill platform headquartered in Wichita, KS responsible for meat production and operations including pork, turkey, beef, further processing and case ready.

In 2008 VendTech partnered with CMS to deliver an industrial Risk Analysis & Vulnerability Assessment (RAVA) program encompassing all corporate offices and facilities. Several security concerns and incidents exposed the company's need for comprehensive service, and after identifying a number of security and safety threats VendTech was awarded a subsequent contract for implementation and execution of risk mitigation measures throughout 2009.

VendTech provided unarmed Security Guard Officers (SGO) to two CMS corporate office buildings. VendTech provided all supervision, personnel, tools, equipment, materials, training, and state and local licenses to provide unarmed guard services with SGO hours provided per year at approximately 13000.

CASE STUDY: Best Value Services, LLC

Wichita, Kansas

Best Value Services, LLC is a multi-million dollar Facility Support Services Defense Contractor offering an array of services to various military bases. Their support operations require personnel with the ability to navigate and obtain clearance from multiple DOD installations and facilities.

VendTech provides a number of pre-employment screening services for the management staff at Best Value. We help ensure that potential new hires and employees remain compliant with the requirements necessary for their organization to provide qualified personnel. Best Value Services, LLC uses our secure, web-based system that allows quick response and saves their company valuable time and resources.
